Mġarr United defender Alexandra Gatt is set to be the latest Maltese female player to seek pastures new overseas as the 16-year-old will be settling into a new life in England.
Gatt will form part of Barking Abbey College Football Academy, in Barking, London. Besides resuming her academic studies, the young defender will be representing the team in the popular college league of the United Kingdom.
In addition, the former Mġarr United player could also form part of a football club to compete in the English pyramid of the women’s game, having also undergone trials with two different clubs in England.
Gatt has been part of the national team set-up at youth level, representing Malta in several international tournaments including the UEFA Development Tournament and the UEFA European Championships qualifiers.
At club level, Gatt played 22 games with Mġarr in the seniors league with seven appearances in the 2019-20 season. She has also been a key figure in the U-19’s side with whom she won the title this season as she featured 14 times, scoring 26 goals in the process.
Gatt will be following Maria Farrugia and Emma Ciantar Piccinino who will also be plying their trade in England this year, both at Sunderland.
