Neptunes WPSC announced that they had suspended the player who tested positive for COVID-19 and a member of the senior team staff for their actions until the end of the season.
The decision was taken after an internal investigation was made by the club after a member of the senior team tested positive for COVID-19 following the team’s 11-7 victory over Sliema in the Premier Division play-off semi-final, played on Sunday.
On Monday, the Aquatic Sports Association announced that it had decided to suspend for two weeks the start of the Premier Division play-off final which would have seen Neptunes take on San Ġiljan TUM Invest.
“ Following the Club’s official statement dated 21 September 2020, the Committee has carried out an internal investigation and has decided to suspend, with immediate effect and until the end of the season, the player who tested positive for COVID-19.
“In addition, a member of the senior team staff has tendered his resignation and, pending the Club’s decision in this respect, shall no longer form part of the senior team staff until the end of the season.
“Further to the above, the Club reserves its right to take further action as matters develop and should additional facts emerge relating to the matter at hand.”
Meanwhile, this week the ASA has published the revised fixtures for the final matches of the season, and the first match of the best-out-of-three play-off final between Neptunes and San Ġiljan is scheduled to be played on October 6.
However, this date may also be put back by a few days to give Neptunes, who are currently in quarantine, more time to prepare for the final.
