The Maltese horse racing community was on Sunday mourning the passing of driver Frans Tanti.
Known as ‘Il-Bugi’, Tanti took part in Sunday’s racing programme at the Marsa Racetrack when he led mare Staro Lets Dance during the class Bronze heat.
In the closing stages of the race, Tanti was involved in an accident. Medical personnel rushed on to the racetrack to assist Tanti and his mare but they initially looked in good condition as they made their way out of the track.
However, Tanti fell in his stables and was certified dead.
In a statement, the Malta Racing Club sent their deep condolences to his family.
“A few minutes ago it reached us the news that owner and driver Frans Tanti, known as ‘Il-Bugi’ passed away just after he was in action at the Marsa Racetrack,” the Malta Racing Club said.
“The Council of the Malta Racing Club would like to send their condolences to all his family, particularly to his wife Sonia and his two children Leon and Zeon.”
