Watch: Neverendingdream wins class Gold final

Neverendingdream, driven by Paul Galea, won Sunday’s major event at the Marsa Racetrack.

This was the Johnnie Walker Cup final for class Gold trotters on a short distance of 2140m. This final formed part of the 39th meeting of the season made up of eight races all for trotters.

Twelve trotters lined up for the class Gold final.

It was Foxy Brown (Rodney Gatt) which took the lead midway through the distance and opened a small lead from Chemsak Vedaquais (Jeffrey Said) and Judge Reo (Kerstin Galea).

However, midway through the final straight, the favourite and early leader, Foxy Brown started to slow down and was overtaken by Neverendingdream (Paul Galea) which gained its fifth win of the year and its third in a row. Drogba Bob (Michael Ellul) and Braveheart Jiel (Claudio Refalo) ended respectively in third and fourth place. 

At the end of this final, Alfred Braddick, on behalf of the sponsors, presented the prestigious trophy to two of the owners of the winning horse, Clayton McKay and Melvin Cini and to the driver Paul Galea. This in the presence of MRC chairman Edwin Borg.

The winner clocked an impressive time of 1.14.2” per kilometer.

Sunday’s card also included a class Premier event on a long distance of 3140m. In this race, Charles Camilleri put Vertige De Chenu in front midway through this long distance.

This French trotter led till the end and sealed its second win of the year and in Malta by a length and a half from the favourite Vivaldi Du Vivrot (Anton Cassar) and Theo d’Erah (Charles Degiorgio).

Andiamo De Monchel (Noel Baldacchino) followed behind in that order.

Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held next Sunday. The first race should start at 1.30pm.
