Dusan Fitzel has hailed Michael Mifsud’s professional approach in his career as the secret behind his extraordinary international career as the veteran forward makes his final appearance against Liechtenstein on Wednesday.
The Czech coach was in charge of one of the brightest periods of the national team in recent years when under his charge Malta bagged five points in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, which included a memorable 2-1 win over Hungary.
“Michael Mifsud was a key player for us,” Fitzel said.
“During that time, we had very few players who were plying their trade abroad and Michael was playing in the English Championship which was at the top top level of European football.
“I never had any problems with him as when he came, he always gave his 100 per cent and was a key component of our team.
“He was a professional in everything he did and for me he is one of the best players in the history of Maltese football.
