Kurt Cassar got a season-high in scoring over the weekend as Pallacanestro Orzinuovi won big after a series of losses. The Times of Malta Sportsdesk looks at Cassar and other Maltese professionals plying their trade overseas in another segment of ‘Maltese Abroad’.
Pallacanestro Orzinuovi’s Kurt Cassar scored seven points in eight minutes, in his latest outing for the side on Sunday as they beat Novipiu JP Monferrato 109-71.
This comes after a streak of losses for the side and this score tally will surely benefit the Malta international in his quest for more minutes on court after not being utilized in recent games.
Orizunovi face Treviglio on Sunday for the last game of the year.
Leicester Riders’ Aaron Falzon scored 11 points and got two assists off the bench as the Riders beat Glasgow Rocks with a blowout 93-59 scoreline in the BBL Cup on Wednesday to reach the semi-finals. Falzon managed to grab seven boards as he played for nearly 22 minutes. They will now face the Newcastle Eagles with January dates for both legs still to be confirmed.
Falzon was back in action two days later as the Riders beat the Bristol Flyers 85-73. This time, he played a minor role – close to 9 minutes. He managed to score four points and grabbed another four rebounds.
The Leicester Riders’ next game is against the Flyers again on Wednesday (tip off 8PM UK/9PM Malta).
