Marcelo Barbosa is heading back to Gozitan football as the Brazilian striker has ended his stint with Ħamrun Spartans and rejoined Nadur Youngsters.
Barbosa joined the Spartans on loan in the summer as he was one of four players to complete their transfer to the Premier League club.
Barbosa enjoyed a bright start to the season with the Spartans but his progress was curtailed by a back injury. However, he made a return to the pitch earlier this month and on Wednesday he looked to have rediscovered his best form when notching a brace in a 5-0 thumping of Tarxien Rainbows that lifted the team to the top of the Premier League standings.
However, the Spartans have decided to part ways with the Brazilian, who notched five goals for the Reds in the first part of the 2020-21 season.
Ħamrun have already signed Soufiane Lagzir earlier this month and are currently looking to further bolster their forward line with the capture of a quality forward as they look to bolster their hopes of a title charge.
It is understood that the Spartans are going to be very active in the January transfer window and are also scouring the market for an experienced centre back.
The Spartans were in advanced talks to sign Aalborg defender Kasper Pedersen.
However, the transfer fell through as the 27-year-old pulled out of move late in the negotiations due to family reasons.
