Gżira United have completed the signing of striker Maxuell Samurai earlier than what they had planned as the Premier League club put seal on a deal for the Brazilian on Thursday.
The Times of Malta reported earlier this week that the Maroons had contacted Sirens and informed them that they were opening talks with the former Sta Lucia striker to seal a pre-contract agreement with the player over a move for next season.
However, in the last 24 hours the situation has continued to evolve as Sirens have decided to part ways with the player immediately, paving the way for Maxuell to agree terms with Gżira United.
In fact, Maxuell has put pen to paper on a three-year contract and will be available for the Maroons for their first fixture in 2020 when they face Senglea Athletic on January 6.
On the other hand, Sirens have moved quickly to bring in a replacement as they have secured the services of Hamed Kone, who was released by Gżira United earlier this week.
In fact, Kone struggled to leave his mark with the Maroons this season as he failed to secure a regular berth in Darren Abdilla’s team.
Kone will now look for a new challenge with Sirens FC where he will reunite with Italian coach Giovanni Tedesco with whom he had already worked when the former Palermo coach was at the helm at Gżira United.
Kone could make his debut for Sirens against Birkirkara on January 5.
