As of this year, Birżebbuga Sailing Club Freeport is organising the Yachting Malta BSC regatta.
This is an international regatta that is going to be organised yearly in the second half of February, this year the days being February 13, 14 and 15.
For the 2021 regatta, the international participation is by invitation only, due to current restrictions. The event is expected to attract a high level fleet in the Optimist, Laser and Feva categories.
Boats will sail around a trapezoid course on a race series on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Races are scheduled to start at noon on Saturday and 11.00 am on Sunday and Monday. All legs will be held in Marsaxlokk Bay or at Bengħisa reef according to the prevailing wind conditions.
Yachting Malta are the title sponsors of this international regatta that in the coming years is intended to increase in popularity.
Launched in April 2015, Yachting Malta’s primary role is to identify and attract high-profile yachting events to the Maltese Islands, including sailing regattas, power racing, boat shows, yachting awards & conferences.
It is expected that this regatta will become very popular especially among Northern European athletes who due to the weather conditions in their respective countries cannot sail at this time of the year. More information can be found on https://bscsailing.club/bsc-regatta
