The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) hosted the fourth Time Trial for the season 2020-21 on Saturday at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq.
The four hour meet saw 217 swimmers representing eight clubs compete in 14 Events with a total of 442 starts.
Participation showed a substantial increase from the previous event held in January with 95 male and 118 female swimmers registering personal best times.
Sasha Gatt was the only swimmer to establish a national record.
Gatt’s time of 4:23:33 was both a national and Age Group D record for the 400m freestyle, improving on the record she herself set in October 2020 by 4.84 seconds.
“The ASA is very satisfied with the swimmers’ performances. Malta is one of the very few countries in Europe where competitive swimming is still taking place and these results are highly encouraging, ” explained Joe Caruana Curran, the ASA president said.
“Swimmers forming part of the National Squad will shortly undergo a high altitude training camp – a practice which will be repeated during the next two years in preparation for the Games of the Small States of Europe in 2023.” he concluded.
The next Time Trial event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 13. For more information please visit www.asaofmalta.eu
