Mosta scored twice in the second half as they beat Sta Lucia 2-0 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy.

It was a deserved win for Davor Filipovic’s side as they had an edge over their opponents.

In fact, this clash put the two teams against each other for the second time in five days with Mosta prevailing once again after defeating them with a 3-2 scoreline on Saturday.

While Mosta, who had eliminated holders Balzan in the previous round, were in their typical formation, Sta Lucia lacked Alan da Silva while Adam Magri Overend and Nicholas Pulis were included as substitutes.

Mosta showed greater determination in the early stages, going close to taking the lead after six minutes with a fine volley by Zachary Brincat from the right which ended just wide.

Sta Lucia replied with a Rei Tachikawa effort, off a short clearance by Rafael Morisco, on 16 minutes, which was parried by Mafoumbi. Three minutes later, Kevin Ante Rosero failed to connect off an inviting cross by Caseres from the right.

Five minutes from the end of the first half, Kevin Ante Rosero concluded a good move with a fine rising shot from outside the area which brought the best out of goalkeeper Mafoumbi who turned the ball into a corner.

Ante Rosero missed a good opportunity early in the second half when off an assist by Caseres, he hit incredibly high on 51 minutes.

Three minutes later, Mosta managed to break the deadlock. Divine Naah delivered a cross from the right and Christ Ememe hit low past goalkeeper Miguel Montfort.

Sta Lucia hit back with a Victor Luiz Filho freekick from which Andre Rodrigues Prates’ header was turned into a corner by the Mosta custodian on 63 minutes.

Tachikawa then missed a good opportunity on 77 minutes, hitting high following a cross by Timothy Tabone Desira.

In a counter-attack for Mosta, Bojan Kaljevic had a close-range effort blocked into a corner three minutes later.

However, three minutes in added time, Mosta sealed the issue with a second goal when Matias Muchardi led a counter-attack for the Blues, exchanged the ball with Michael Mifsud and controlled well before beating Montfort with a shot from the edge of the area.
