Maria Farrugia and her Sunderland Ladies team are set to resume their 2020/2021 season duties after the FA announced the return of the Women’s Vitality Cup (equivalent to the men’s FA Cup).
Sunderland will host fellow FA Women’s National League – third tier – side Sheffield FC, on April 4.
Should the Lasses advance into the next round, they would face the winner of Burnley vs Flyde in an away tie, on April 11. At stake will be a high-profile clash against giants Manchester United on home soil, a week later.
The FA are still currently weighing up whether the FAWNL league campaign will return to conduct a natural conclusion, after receiving results from surveys sent to all clubs from tiers 3-6 in the women’s football structure.
A FAWNL statement noted that an update with regards to the commencing of the 2020/2021 championships will be announced on 15 March.
Sunderland were sitting fifth with 15 points after nine games before domestic action was interrupted due to the lockdown in the United Kingdom.
Malta player Farrugia had scored one goal in six appearances this season as she has nine goals in 31 appearances over three seasons at Sunderland.
