Senglea’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed as they were hammered by Mosta.

For a side mathematically on course to become the worst ever in the Premier League, Senglea were full of belief and triggered a frenetic opening.

William Donkin gave Mosta the lead after four minutes but Junior Dibola’s powerful shot put Senglea level on the half hour mark.

Yet, it was one-way traffic after the break as Bojan Kaljevic drove in two and Michael Mifsud and Johann Bezzina got their names on the scoresheet.

After four minutes, Clayton Failla whipped in a trademark corner to the near post. The ball was headed across goal by Mifsud for Donkin to prod home from few metres out.

Mosta could have nicked another goal but Mifsud volleyed over from close-range.

But Senglea equalised past the half hour stroke when Firas Aboulezz drifted an intelligent ball into the penalty area for Freud Gnindokponou who worked an opening for Dibola. The Cameroon striker wasted no time in smashing the ball into the top corner.

On 38 minutes, Senglea could have trailed for a second time. Rodriguez Ekani floated a ball into the penalty area. The ball dropped to Rafael Morisco who evaded the onrushing goalkeeper only to side-net the goal from a tight-angle.

Within eight minutes of the restart, Mosta regained the lead. Kevin Tulimieri pierced the Senglea defence with a perfect through-ball. Mifsud raced clear and the seasoned striker steered the ball past Matthew Farrugia and into the far corner of the net.

It was all Mosta from then on and Kaljevic extended his side’s lead. The Senglea defender failed to deal with a long ball and a grateful Mifsud latched onto the ball and served Kaljevic who found the net.

The Montenegrin striker scored again six minutes later when Mifsud found himself in space on the right and got in a centre which Kaljevic sent his free header behind Farrugia.

Mosta made it five when a routine punt downfield from Morisco reached Johann Bezzina who, 25 metres away from goal, controlled the ball and then lashed over Farrugia’s head into the top corner for a breathtaking goal.
