Kemar Reid’s late strike snatched a point for Żejtun Corinthians who had to play for more than an hour with a man down.
Hamed Kone, who had put Sirens ahead, almost spoilt Żejtun’s efforts when he put the ball into the net in stoppage time but luckily for the Corinthians the goal was annulled for offside.
The result left Żejtun third from bottom on 24 points, level with Balzan and Gudja while Sirens are ninth on 28 points.
Sirens started the brighter with Kone going close but Edward Herrera swept the ball away for a corner.
There was controversy in the 25th minute when referee Glen Tonna sent off Vitor Vieira for catching Adrian Borg in the face with his arm.
Sirens still struggled to make their numerical advantage tell. But in Wilfried Domoraud they have a potent weapon when shooting from distance and it took an amazing block by Christian Cassar to prevent the French striker from opening the score.
Kone was making plenty of runs to unlock the opponents with the Żejtun defenders repeatedly resorting to fouls to tame the striker.
On the hour mark, Anderson sent Kone crashing to the ground following another mazy run by the Ivorian forward. Kone pulled himself up to take the ensuing kick and left Cassar shocked with a well-placed shot into the low corner.
On 71 minutes, Cassar came out of his lines to close down Kone only to miss the ball allowing the Ivorian striker to square for Scicluna with a clear shot at goal. Henrique Marcelina came to his side’s rescue, clearing the ball off the line.
Sirens’ defence stood firm in the closing minutes as Żejtun desperately tried to snatch a point to boost their survival chances.
Six minutes from time, Edward Herrera leaped superbly to power a Junior Barboza’s corner against the crossbar.
Just when it look like it was all over for Żejtun, Kemar Reid headed home from a cross by Herrera.
Seconds later, Kone scored what he thought was winner. Yet the offside flag went up and the stalemate prevailed.
