Former Floriana player Igor Coronado spearheaded his UAE side Al-Sharjah to victory with a first-half hat-trick and another goal in the second 45 minutes.
Al-Sharjah defeated Al-Khaleej 5-1 to halt their five-game winless streak that saw them slip from top position.
Coronado, who played in Malta between 2012 and 2015, opened the score after six minutes with a spectacular free-kick.
On the 18th minute, Coronado doubled the lead after capitalising on a well-engineered transition.
Midway into the first-half, Al Sharjah extended their lead through an own goal before Coronado found his third after converting from the penalty spot.
After the change of ends, Al Khaleej pulled one back before Coronado wrapped up his spectacular evening with his fourth goal.
Coronado’s team is now second on 40 points, four behind leaders Al-Jazira. They will face Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai in their next league fixture, in four days time.
The Brazilian player has now scored 15goals in 20 games in all competitions this season.
