The second edition of the Malta BOV ePremier League takes shape on April 7 as it builds upon the success of the inaugural season, despite COVID-19 complications, where Christian Spiteri won the league for Sta Lucia.
Spiteri, Shaun Galea, Ryan Cauchi, Brandon Galea, and Dunstan Vella have all qualified directly from last season with others – including Valletta and Malta international Shaun Dimech – making it to the league through an offline qualifier earlier this year.
The draw, which took place on Wednesday, pitted the players in four groups before eventually moving on to a knockout stage with the group standings used to determine seeds. From then on, two-leg rounds will eventually present a league winner.
The league’s organisers explained that all action is to be streamed live on the official website, as well as Youtube and streaming website Twitch.
Group Stage matches are penciled in for the month of April with each group’s teams playing every Wednesday.
In the previous edition, Spiteri had dominated proceedings for Sta Lucia as he went undefeated for the entire season. He had ammassed a total of 72 points after going on an impressive run of 22 consecutive wins. He finished 14 points ahead of Ħamrun Spartans’ Galea with Tarxien Rainbows’ Ryan Cauchi third on 49 points.
