The Malta Football Association is on pole to be awarded the 2023 European Championships following a UEFA Executive Committee held on Monday morning.
The Maltese governing body of football submitted its bid to host the continental championships in two years’ time.
Members of the UEFA Executive Committee met on Monday to discuss the matter and the Malta Football Association said in a statement that the European governing body committee has put its backing behind Malta’s bid.
“Indications are that UEFA EXCO will be considering favourably Malta’s bid to host U19 UEFA Championship finals in summer 2023,” the MFA said in a post on its facebook.
Reports in other sections of the media said that Malta had won the bid but so far no decision has been taken.
Should the bid be successful, this will be the second time that the Malta FA has been awarded the rights to host a youth continental championships.
In fact, in 2014 Malta hosted the U-17 UEFA Championships.
