Watch: Maltese player Borg scores late as Seton Hall move into first NCAA quarters in 33 years

Andrea Borg’s run in the prestigious NCAA tournament is still going on after his Seton Hall Pirates eliminated Virginia Tech after a thrilling encounter that had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out – 7-6.

The Pirates, in their first ever NCAA quarter-final since 1988, will be facing Indiana who are tipped as one of the favourites to win the tournament on Monday.

The game went to penalties after former Malta U-21 player Borg scored a late equaliser to end the game in a 2-2 draw. Off of a corner, the ball was loose in front of the net when Borg was able to get his foot to it and score the leveller for his side.

Pirates’ goalkeeper Andrea Nota, then, took centre stage in the penalties when he denied Virginia twice to hand his team a first quarter-final berth in 33 years.

Seton Hall are participating in the NCAA tournament for the first time in 16 years after winning their 5th BIG EAST Conference title in April.
