Malta Artistic Swimming team impress in Pirin tournament in Bulgaria

The Malta Artistic Swimming national team produced a strong performance at the Pirin Tournament Blagoevgrad in Bulgaria.

The Maltese athletes competed in Duet Tech, the Solo Free and Combo events.

Ana Culic and Valentina Marchi placed second in the Duet Tech after compiling a score of 66.0151.

Culic was then in action in the Sole Free where she managed to place third overall with a score of 70.5667 while Thea Grima Buttigieg finished sixth with a score of 66.333.

The Combo team, composed of Thea Blake, Davida Bonanno (captain), Tara Bonnici Peresso, Ana Culic, Elisa Marie Friggieri, Ana Grech, Thea Grima Buttigieg, Valentina Marchi, Kelly Ann Sargent, Nicole Tomic Felice, Katarina Galea Curmi and Hannah Xuereb just missed out on the gold medal by 0.4 points when placing second with a score of 70.900.

“The ASA is extremely satisfied with the results achieved by the Artistic Swimming Team in Bulgaria,” Aquatic Sports Association of Malta president Joe Caruana Curran said.

“In spite of all the challenges that COVID-19 has posed to our coaches and athletes, these results are a clear demonstration of the hard work and dedication put in by all.

“We, at the ASA are immensely proud. All the girls including the coaches deserve all our praise for having performed at such an incredibly high level.”
