Rachel Cuschieri put up another commanding showing for Lazio women’s team in their 1-0 win over Vicenza Femminile that has enabled them to move top in Serie B with one game left.
Both teams squared off at Vicenza’s Stadio Romeo Menti, where Lazio’s final appearance in this stadium was back in December 2000 when the then men’s Serie A defending champions Biancocelesti beat the Biancorossi 4-1.
The Malta midfielder was deployed in the middle from the start and came close to cap her performance with a goal just to be denied by the crossbar late in the first half.
It was her second straight woodwork after the one in last week’s victory over Roma Calcio Femminile that sealed their Serie A promotion.
Fellow Malta women player Emma Lipman came on in the second half as a central defender as Lazio were looking to protect their one-goal lead until the final whistle.
Lazio are now one game away from winning the Serie B championship as they lead the table with 50 points, one ahead of Pomigliano who were upset by Brescia 2-1 on home soil.
Next weekend, Carolina Morace’s Lazio will host Tavagnacco whereas Pomigliano will travel away to Ravenna Women.
