The Loughborough Riders confirmed their place in the Women’s National basketball league (WNBL UK) playoffs semi-finals on Saturday after beating the Reading Rockets 62-53.
Riders guard Sasha Lecuyer had already made headlines after adding another name to the list of Malta internationals who have made the post-season this year and became the second Rider to get to the semi-finals of her respective league, after Aaron Falzon’s Leicester Riders in the British basketball League (BBL).
Lecuyer, originally part of the Charnwood College Riders as a student athlete, has progressed into becoming part of the higher-ranked Loughborough affiliate of the Riders, which could see her eventually rising up to Leicester in the Women’s British basketball league (WBBL).
The Malta guard scored six points in 20 minutes on Saturday. She added six rebounds and two assists in a game which was balanced throughout but the Riders led throughout, after ending the first quarter tied 12-12. The side were looking to bounce back after their loss against the Rockets in April.
The WNBL playoffs kicked off on Saturday with further games taking place on Sunday. The Loughborough Riders face their semi-finals opponent this weekend, one which is still to be confirmed.
