Mya Azzopardi and Thomas Wareing both set national Records on Wednesday morning at the LEN European Aquatic Championships, that are currently being held in Budapest, Hungary.
Azzopardi improved her own national mark in the 200m Freestyle event when she clocked a time of 2:04.52. Her previous record of 2:05,11 was achieved in April during the International Turkcell Open in Turkey.
Meanwhile, Wareing set a new national standard in the 200m Individual Medley.
His time of 2:08,34 improved the previous record, which was held by Michael Umnov, that stood at 2.08.69 since April 2018.
Azzopardi and Wareing are part of the Maltese contingent competing at the LEN European Aquatic Championships being held in Budapest.
The contingent is made up of Azzopardi (100m, 200m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley), Dylan Cachia (200m, 400m Freestyle), Sasha Gatt, (400m, 1500m Freestyle), Nicola Muscat,( 50m Freestyle, backstroke and butterfly) and Thomas Wareing (200m, 400m Individual Medley). This event is also a FINA approved Olympic Qualifying event.
The Maltese team is accompanied by national coach, Artem Goncharenko and physiotherapist Andrew Pisani.
Coaches Catalin Stan and Gail Rizzo are also accompanying the team who will be competing for the rest of this week and are scheduled to return to Malta on May 24.
