New Juventus coach Allegri investigated on money-laundering links with Malta-based company

Newly-appointed Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is being investigated for money laundering, reports in Italy said on Sunday.

A report on Italian newspaper La Verita said that Allegri, who has just returned as coach of Juventus after a two-year sabbatical, had received some payments in his account from a Maltese betting company and another one from Slovenia.

Allegri is currently being investigated by Bankitalia and these transactions have inevitably caught the attention of the anti-moneylaundering department of the Italian police.

Allegri has moved quickly to deny the allegations.

“I would like to make it clear that I am completely unaware of any illicit activity moreso any operation that violates the rules on money laundering,” Allegri said.

The report mentions several payments from abroad, particularly from a Maltese registered company, Oia Service Limited, which has been accused of irregular betting and is under investigation for tax evasion and links with Ndrangheta.
