Sette Giugno Championship gets underway at Marsa

The 14th meeting of the season, which was held on Sunday evening at the Marsa Racetrack, heralded the start of the Sette Giugno Championship for class Premier trotters.

Sunday’s card consisted of eleven races all for trotters.

From the seven class Premier heats, 28 horses made it to the semi-final stage.

In the first heat, French newcomer Balzac De L’Iton (Marco Refalo) sealed its first win in Malta after taking the lead 300m from the end.

Ustinof Du Vivier (Cherise Farrugia) led all the way in the second class Gold heat and also registered its first win in Malta. There was a keen duel in the final straight between the winner Andiamo De Monchel (Charles Degiorgio) and Carlo De Carsi(Michael Ellul) in the third heat.

French debutante Crusoe d’Anama (Charles Camilleri) also gained its first win in Malta after it was unchallenged during the 2140m distance of the fourth heat.

Brasil De Bailly (Michael Ellul) dashed strongly from the outside during the last 400m to gain its first win on the islands in the fifth heat.  

In the sixth heat, That’s Art (Clint Vassallo) sped past the finishing post first after taking the lead with a lap to go.

Casanova Du Corta (Cliferty Calleja) gained its second win in a row in the last heat. This after increasing its speed midway through the final straight.

Another meeting at the Marsa Racetrack will be held on Sunday.

Race 3. Executive Security Championship QF, Class Silver – Cristal Des Hayes (Noel Baldacchino) – 1.16.5”

Race 4. Executive Security Championship QF, Class Silver – Bilton (Mario Falzon) – 1.16.8”

Race 5. Sette Giugno Championship Heat, Class Premier – Balzac De L’Iton (Marco Refalo) – 1.14.3”

Race 6. Sette Giugno Championship Heat, Class Premier – Ustinof Du Vivier (Cherise Farrugia) – 1.14.5”

Race 7. Sette Giugno Championship Heat, Class Premier – Andiamo De Monchel (Charles Degiorgio) – 1.17”

Race 8. Sette Giugno Championship Heat, Class Premier – Crusoe d’Anama (Charles Camilleri) – 1.15.2”
