Birkirkara women are set to launch their quest for another domestic title against newcomers San Ġwann on the opening day of the BOV Women’s League.
The 2021/2022 season is scheduled to start on September 28 and it will run until April 27, with all seven teams to face each other three times for a total of 18 games.
Birkirkara will be meeting Glasgow City in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League next month, as they start favourites to clinch the Maltese title.
The Stripes have won four straight titles since 2016/2017 and they were heading for a fifth before the Covid-19 pandemic halted last season’s campaign.
On the other hand, San Ġwann are the latest team to join the senior women’s league after Mtarfa’s debut season in 2020/2021.
Title challengers Mġarr United and Swieqi United – both appointing new coaches at the helm – will open their new season against Kirkop United and Mtarfa respectively. In the case of the Oranges, they will play their first game on Matchday 2 as they will serve a bye on opening day.
All games will be played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with the venues used for this league being the Centenary Stadium, Dingli Ground and Mġarr Ground.
