Martina Borg will start a new chapter in her fifth straight season in Italy after signing for Roma Calcio Femminile, in the Italian Serie B.
Borg, who has 41 caps with the Malta women’s national team, was not given the option to extend her contract at Sassari Torres for a third year despite contributing to the team’s successful Serie C campaign that saw them clinch promotion to the second-tier.
Last season, the Malta international played 20 games and scored five goals for a total of 35 games and 6 goals with the Sardegna-based side between the 2019/2020 and the 2020/2021 campaigns.
Previously, Borg has played for Apulia Trani and Fortitudo Mozzecane as well. In four seasons in Italy, she has played 70 games and found the net on 15 occasions.
Roma CF placed 10th in the 14-team Serie B last season.
In the upcoming campaign they will be vying for the top spot which secures automatic promotion into Serie A, with the 2011/2012 campaign being their last in the Italian top-flight.
The new Serie B season is set to start on September 12.
Roma CF will be also participating in the Coppa Italia which is reserved for all Serie A and Serie B teams.
The team from Italy’s capital city is one of the oldest women teams in Italy and have been playing in the Serie B since the 2013/2014 season. Throughout their history, they have managed to win the Serie A and Coppa Italia back in 1969 and 1971 respectively.
