Giovanni Tedesco is set to be appointed as the new coach of United Arab Emirates side Ras Al Khaimah and is set to make Malta international Rowen Muscat one of his first signings, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Italian coach was in charge of Sirens FC last season and guided the Premier League club to successful retain their top-flight status. However, his contract was not renewed by the St Paul’s Bay club at the end of last season and was replaced by Winston Muscat.
However, the former Perugia and Palermo midfielder is now set to restart his coaching career in the Middle East as he has been lined up to take charge of Ras Al Khaimah.
The Dubai-based club is starting afresh in the UAE championships after they were forced to withdraw from the country’s football competitions due to financial problems.
But the club has now been taken over by nine investors in the UAE and are restarting from the country’s second-tier.
For Tedesco this will be his second spell in UAE football after last year he was in charge for a short spell at Al Bataeh.
Tedesco is expected to arrive in the UAE on Saturday where he is set to rubberstamp his position as new first-team coach.
The Italian has taken with him Rowen Muscat who is already in the United Arab Emirates after his contract with Valletta FC expired at the end of last season.
For Muscat, this will be his second experience outside Maltese football as he played for Hungarian side Dunaujvaros in 2015 and Pavia in 2016.
It is understood that Muscat will not be the only player from the Maltese Premier League to be heading to the UAE as the Ras Al Khaimah top hierarchy are targeting moves from other players but so far no names have been confirmed.
