Malta international Tevin Falzon has joined Italian Serie C side Vigor Basketball Matelica, the club announced in a statement on Saturday.
The forward, currently with the Malta national team ahead of the FIBA European Small Countries Games this week, was already with a Serie C side last season when he joined Pallacanestro Palestrina. However, with the championship being stopped before even starting, Falzon had returned home.
“We liked Falzon immediately because he has characteristics, especially physical, uncommon for his role in this championship, making him potentially a continuous mismatch in our favour. Let’s hope he adapts to the championship immediately that predicts very challenging,” Matelica President Stefano Bruzzechesse told the team’s socials.
Similarly, coach Lorenzo Cecchini emphasised Falzon’s size and athleticism.
“Falzon matches an exterior’s skills to the abundant meters that in C Gold can easily allow you to play for a long time. It was a prominent name among those who arrived in Europe from NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division One in his year, but it only partially confirmed expectations as we go,” he said.
“With the right mindset, I’m sure he can take the extra step he missed to date.”
Falzon, who has played in the UK and Iceland after his college days, expressed his enthusiasm after the confirmation of his signing, saying he has got high expectations and ‘expects to win’.
“I’m very excited for the season to come with Matelica,” Falzon said.
“Talking to Coach Cecchini and my agent for the past few weeks I realised that this is the perfect situation for me and the right step to pursue my career. Also, I got to talk to Sydney Donaldson about the city and daily life in Matelica and her words just cemented my decision.
“I first expect to win. I know there are high expectations in this respect and on this we are perfectly aligned – myself and club.
“Obviously, I also want to grow as a player and have the best season of my career. Really excited to join the Vigor family, can’t wait to meet everyone and maybe even learn some Italian!”.
