Gżira United re-sign Nigerian striker Haruna Garba on a one-year deal

Gżira United have announced the return of Nigerian striker Haruna Garba.

The towering Nigerian has agreed terms with the Maroons and has put pen to paper on a one-year contract.

“We would like to announce that Nigerian Striker Haruna Garba is maroon once again,” the Premier League said in a statement.

“He signed a 1 year contract and will be available for this weekend match.

“Welcome Back Home Haruna!”.

For Garba this will be his second spell with Gżira United after he had parted ways with the club last summer after he had agreed a move to Hungarian giants Debrecen.

The powerful striker had arrived in Malta in 2015 when he joined Sliema Wanderers but the following season he joined Ħamrun Spartans where he impressed when scoring 27 goals in 31 appearances.

He left the Spartans in 2017 when he moved to Dubai before securing a lucrative move to Swedish giants Djurgarden.

In January 2018 he was back in Malta when he signed for Gżira United where he spent 18 months with the Maroons where he collected 22 appearances and scored 13 goals.

He then headed to Hungary to play for Debrecen before plying his trade in China with SZ Dongwu and then with Romanian side FC Voluntari.

The arrival of Garba is surely a huge shot in the arm for coach Darren Abdilla who is craving for some firepower after a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign which saw the team suffer a 3-1 defeat to Hibernians.
