Valletta FC are currently giving a trial to Albanian defender Elmir Lekaj, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The 21-year-old is currently in Malta and training with the former Malta champions with a view of being offered a contract.
Elmaj has been training under the watchful eyes of coach Jose Antonio Cardoso Mendes who is keen to see whether the Albanian U-20 international has the qualities to form part of his squad.
This season, the Citizens have decided to bank their transfer business on young players and so far the capital club have already signed Italian goalkeeper Alessandro Guarnone, defender Christian Gauci and midfielders Michele Sansone and James Arthur.
Lekaj has come through the youth ranks of KF Vllaznia and last January he headed to Kosovo where he joined KF Arberia.
Last season, Lekaj made 11 appearances in the Superliga e Kosoves.
Should Lekaj be offered a contract he would be the second Albanian on the books of Valletta as the club already have Eslit Sala.
