Youth goalkeeper Maya Cachia will be starting a new chapter in her football career as she put pen to paper on a one-year contract with Crotone Femminile.
Cachia, age 16, will be forming part of Crotone’s first team, who will be playing in next season’s Serie C campaign. The league is scheduled to start on October 10.
Crotone will be playing in Girone C which includes several strong sides such as Apulia Trani, Chieti, Pescara and Res Women.
Meanwhile, Crotone will be also playing in the Coppa Italia for third-tier teams which is set to start on September 12.
Cachia was on the books of Birkirkara where she made her first team debut on October 9, 2019 in a league game against Hibernians.
Between the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons, she served as understudy of Malta women’s national team goalkeeper Janice Xuereb at the Stripes and played five games in total. She played with the Stripes at U-19’s level as well.
Previously, she was at Mosta with whom she made her senior debut as well.
At international level, Cachia is yet to collect her first cap, but was part of the senior side in their recent friendlies against Montenegro.
She represented Malta at youth level, featuring in high-profile tournaments such as the UEFA European qualifiers and the UEFA Development Tournament.
Crotone will be coached by Barbara Nardi, formerly of Napoli U-17’s women’s team coach, as they are looking to strengthen their squad to challenge for a Serie B promotion.
Among their players is Silvia Chiellini, sister of Euro 2020 winner Giorgio, who joined Crotone after featuring in Spain for four seasons and at Livorno, in Italy.
