Victories for the big guns in the women’s league

The big guns of the MFA Women’s League all recorded important victories before the campaign takes a break for the upcoming international window which will see Malta in action against Russia and Azerbaijan.

Birkirkara and Mġarr United remained joint leaders of the league after securing their third straight victories on Matchday 3 in which there 17 goals scored.

Swieqi United, who have one game in hand, have also extended their perfect start.

The Stripes opened a two-goal lead in the first half against Raiders Lija following a Georgiana Mifsud’s own goal and Lexine Farrugia’s first ever senior goal, at the age of 14 years and 99 days. Birkirkara wrapped up their win with a third through Charlene Zammit who scored her second goal in three games for her new club.

Swieqi broke little sweat to overcome San Ġwann as they won 7-0 with forward Kelly Agius Pace grabbing a brace in this tie. Andy Zammit Mizzi had broke the deadlock with the remaining goals scored by Dorianne Theuma, Mandy Debono, Simone Buttigieg and Amy Busuttil.

Meanwhile, Mġarr defeated Mtarfa 7-0 with captain Brenda Borg scoring five goals. She is the third player to score a hat-trick in this league. Amber Grech scored the two other goals to earn the Greens three points.
