Paul Zammit named new Balzan FC coach

Paul Zammit has been confirmed as the new coach of Balzan FC, the Premier League club announced.

Balzan have been looking to install a new first-team coach after earlier this week they parted ways with Mark Miller. Zammit had immediately been put on the top of Balzan’s wishlist and after lengthy discussions between the two parties, an agreement was finally reached on Saturday morning.

In fact, Zammit has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

“Balzan F.C. are pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Zammit to the position as first team coach for the next two seasons,” the club said in a statement.

“Club President Anton Tagliaferro said : “We look forward to Paul joining the club and guiding the team to help the club reach its objectives for this season and beyond.

“Paul has an outstanding and extensive career as a coach and we were impressed by his level of professionalism.”

Zammit arrival at Balzan FC marks a welcome return for him to Maltese football. In fact, the former Birkirkara and Valletta FC coach has been missing from the game since March 2020 when domestic football was stopped due to COVID-19 and a few weeks later he parted ways with Premier League club Gżira United.

Zammit will not take charge of the team for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Gżira United as his appointment came too late. The team will be under the charge of Alejandro Pantoja who will be assisted by Luis Gutierrez.

Zammit’s debut with Balzan will take place next week when they take on Gudja United on Sunday, October 31.
