Ħamrun Spartans running the rule over former Sampdoria midfielder

Ħamrun Spartans are running the rule over a Slovakian midfielder who has played in the Italian Serie A, the Times of Malta can confirm.

David Ivan is a 26-year-old midfielder who arrived in Malta on Monday and is expected to attend his first training session under coach Mark Buttigieg this evening.

Born in Bratislava, Ivan came through the youth ranks of Nitra and in 2011 he joined the youth team of Serie A side Sampdoria.

After a few years playing for the U-19 side, Ivan was promoted to the Blucerchiati first team where he made 23 appearances in the Italian top flight.

Then he was loaned to Bari, Pro Vercelli and Vis Pesaro before finally moving to Chievo Verona in 2019 where he spent two seasons.

In 2021, David was loaned to Belarus side Dynamo Brest for one season.

At the moment, David is without the club and the Spartans have decided to have a close look at the player with a view of offering him a contract if he impresses the team’s technical staff.

The Malta champions are currently sixth in the Premier League standings and are hopeful they can kickstart their campaign after a disappointing start that saw them suffer four defeats in their opening seven matches.
