Sliema Wanderers midfielder Warsama Hassan was involved in his nation’s Djibouti’s high-profile 2022 World Cup qualifier against Algeria, on Friday.
Algeria, considered as Africa’s best team so far given the talent they boast, emerged winners 5-0 as they top Group A with one game left. Should they avoid a defeat against Burkina Faso in their remaining game, they will head into the fourth and final qualifying round in the African continent.
Djibouti, on their part, remain bottom of the group without points after five consecutive defeats.
Hassan, 22, was given the nod from the start as he played a full game against the likes of Ismael Bennacer, Sofiane Feghuoli, Said Benrahma and Islam Slimani.
This was Hassan’s 13th international cap during which he also scored one goal. In fact, the Sliema midfielder was on the scoresheet for Djibouti in their 4-2 defeat against Niger in these qualifiers.
Djibouti and Niger will cross swords next Monday, in their final commitments of these Qatar 2022 qualifications.
