Gżira United sign Croatian goalkeeper Zarkov

Gżira United have confirmed the signing of Croatian goalkeeper Darijan Radelic Zarkov.

It was the Times of Malta who on Tuesday revealed that the 29-year-old was currently in Malta training with the Maroons in a bid to earn himself a contract.

Zarkov has impressed Maroons coach Darren Abdilla and his coaching staff and was offered a contract.

In fact, Zarkov has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

At present, Gżira United have already Justin Haber and Anthony Curmi as their goalkeepers in their first-team squad and the arrival of the Croatian goalkeeper will further fuel competition for the club’s number one jersey.

Zarkov spent the majority of his career in Croatia where he played for NK Dubrava, NK Lomotiva and Segesta Sisak among others.

Last season, Zarkov left Croatia and headed to Cyprus where he was on the books of Omonio Psevda.

Gżira United are trying to revive their season after an indifferent start to the season.

The Maroons are currently struggling for consistency and have only managed two wins from their opening eight matches and are currently eighth in the Premier League standings with nine points.

Zarkov could make his debut for Gżira United this weekend when they resume their Premier League campaign against Mosta at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
