Steve Camilleri in hot-scoring form for Copral Muri Antichi in Italian Serie A2

Steve Camilleri has made a blistering start to the season with Italian side Copral Muri Antichi in Serie A2 as the Malta international has so far smashed in 23 goals for his club in their opening four league fixtures.

On the opening day of the season, Camilleri grabbed a hat-trick as Copral Muri Antichi had the better of CN Latina 10-6.

Muri Antichi were in control for much of the match, heading into the interval with a three-goal lead – 6-3. The visitors then did well to hold off the home side’s fightback late on to claim the spoils.

Camilleri was in more prolific form in Copral Muri Antichi’s home debut in the league this season when they played hosts to Acquachiara ATI.

The Neptunes player was in hot-scoring form when he helped himself to six goals as Muri Antichi breezed past Acquachiara ATI 13-6.

The match was balanced after the opening two sessions, with the score tied at four-all when ends were changed.

But in the final two sessions, Muri Antichi stormed clear for a convincing victory.

Next up for Muri Antichi was a trip to SC Tuscolano Pallanuoto and Camilleri played a key role as his team battled toa 14-11 victory.

In fact, the Neptunes player produced an impressive display when netting no less than seven goals.

The match turned out to be a high-scoring affair, particularly in the opening two sessions when with Copra Muri Antichi heading into the interval 9-7 ahead.

And in the final two sessions, they managed to administer their lead for a third successive win.

Copral Muri Antichi clinched a fourth win in a row last weekend when they travelled to Tuscany and overcome Tuscolano 14-11.

Camilleri again took centre stage for his side when he helped himself to seven goals to ensure Copral Muri Antichi preserved top spot in the standings.

“Our goalkeeper in the most important moments saved the result, while Steve Camilleri took the team on his shoulders, but everyone played great,” coach Zeljko Kovacic told reporters after the match.
