The BOV Premier League has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic for the first time in season 2021-22 as the match between Sliema Wanderers and Balzan was postponed to a later date, the Malta Football Association announced.
The match was originally scheduled to be played tomorrow at the Tony Bezzina, with kick-off time set at
6pm. However, the game has now been put back to a later date after the Wanderers reported an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in their squad.
“Due to issues related to COVID-19, Sliema Wanderers’ upcoming BOV Premier League match against Balzan FC,
scheduled for Saturday, December 11, at 18.00 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, will be rescheduled to a later date,” the Malta FA said in a statement.
“The fixture is being postponed in accordance with the Malta FA special rules applicable to domestic competitions
due to COVID-19 after a number of Sliema Wanderers players tested positive for the virus.”
No date has been announced by the Malta FA on when the match will be played.
