The Australian native began his coaching career in the 2015/16 season with A-League side Central Coast Mariners as an assistant coach.
Afterwards, he moved to the United States where he spent two years at USL Championship side Tacoma Defiance. Once again, he returned to Australia as an assistant coach at expansion side Western United in 2019.
In 2020, Hutchinson returned to the United States as he took the job of First team assistant coach at the Seattle Sounders, with whom he made an MLS Cup final appearance as well.
His last venture was in Japan where he was an assistant coach at Yokohama F. Marinos in the top-flight.
