Depiro BC announced another American import signing on Saturday in US guard Koby Thomas. The signing brings to the club a 6’6 swingman who joins on the back of a stint in Finland with Korihait, and who made his debut on the same day in a 73-70 win against Luxol.
This signing is the second made by the Mtarfa side this month, over the Christmas break, after bringing in forward Avery Sullivan.
Thomas was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Year back in his college days at Robert Morris University in 2018, before moving to Coppin State University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division One in 2019.
The guard, originally from Philadelphia, was one of two Coppin State Eagles players to start all of the 22 games played in his senior year last season. He averaged 12.1 points on 41%, and 6.2 rebounds in 30.3 minutes a game.
Over the summer, Thomas was also one of six college players called to work out with the NBA’s Washington Wizards in pre-draft workouts. However, the guard went undrafted despite declaring for the 2021 NBA draft, and went to Finland to join Korihait for the start of the new season.
Thomas will be hoping for a better part of his season, as he leaves the Finnish side in last place of the Korisliiga, who are at 2-15 after 17 games. There, he averaged 4.8 points, and 5.3 rebounds after four games played.
