Sunderland Ladies travelled away at Lewes and were defeated 2-0 in the FA Women’s Championship.
Gozitan-born Farrugia played 77 minutes before being subbed off from the game.
Sunderland are currently 9th in the 12-team league with 12 points and they will face Women’s Super League side Birmingham City, next weekend, in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
