A 98th-minute penalty handed Teddy Teuma’s Royal Union St Gilloise a dramatic 2-1 win over Genk in Belgium’s Jupiler League, on Sunday evening.
RUSG were closing in on a draw after Genk’s Paul Onuachu converted from the penalty spot to level Casper Nielsen’s first half goal that had put Teuma’s team ahead.
With four minutes of stoppage time, RUSG though they had snatched the winner when on the 94th minute Dante Vanzeir slotted home from point-blank range but his goal was disallowed for an offside after a VAR check.
Yet, the drama was not over when RUSG were awarded a penalty which Vanzeir fired past Genk’s goalkeeper with no time left on the clock.
RUSG remain on top of the league with 53 points, nine ahead of giants Club Brugge whom they will face in next Thursday’s highlight match.
