Sliema Wanderers have signed towering goalkeeper Rashed Al-Tumi, the Premier League club said on Friday.
The Malta U-21 goalkeeper is seen as one of the most promising goalkeepers on the island and has enjoyed a lot of experience playing in the Italian leagues during the past few days.
“We are very pleased to announce that Maltese Under-21 International Goalkeeper Rashed Al-Tumi has officially signed for the Blues,” Sliema Wanderers said in a statement.
“The 21-year-old already has experience playing abroad in Italy, and will surely be another quality addition to our Goalkeeping department.”
Al Tumi came through the youth ranks of Valletta FC before heading to Italy where he played for several clubs.
In fact, his first club in Italy was Palermo before he headed to Casarano Arzachena and Nocerina.
Al Tumi has been a regular member of the national teams youth sides where he donned the no.1 jersey at U-17, U-19 and U-21 level.
Al Tumi’s arrival at Sliema gives coach Andrea Pisanu more depth in a key department and the towering goalkeeper will battle for the no.1 jersey with David Cassar and Timothy Aquilina.
The Wanderers are expected to give Al Tumi his debut on Saturday when they face Sirens at the National Stadium.
