Gudja United sweep past Swieqi United as Tarxien stun Marsa in FA Trophy

Gudja United and Tarxien Rainbows booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Trophy with solid victories on Wednesday.

Premier League side Gudja United, as expected, proved too strong for Swieqi United as they breezed to a comfortable 4-0 win at the Centenary Stadium.

In-form striker Ahinga Selemani put Gudja United ahead in the 29th minute before Farid Zuniga added a second goal five minutes from half-time.

Tatsuro Nagamatsu and Nika Dzalamidze struck quick-fire goals on 48 and 50 minutes to end any hopes Swieqi United might have had of a second-half fightback.

The only sour note for Gudja United was the sending off of midfielder James Arthur who was shown the red card on 71 minutes.

But that had little effect as the southerners easily administered their advantage to set up a fourth round tie against either Gżira United or Żabbar St Patrick.

At the Tedesco Stadium, Tarxien Rainbows won the battle between Challenge League sides when they knocked out Marsa 2-0.

The Rainbows quickly seized control of the match when Thiago Nota Peixoto put them ahead after four minutes of play.

Karl Cutajar added a second 12 minutes from half-time as Marsa failed to fight back into the match as the Rainbows now face Valletta FC in the next round.
