It was a Sunday afternoon of mixed fortunes for the Malta women players based in Italy’s Serie B and Serie C.
In the second-tier, Malta women’s national team captain Emma Lipman was in the starting formation for Como Women as they defeated Sassari Torres 2-0.
Lipman’s side remain on top of the Serie B standings with 30 points after 13 games played.
On the other hand, both Martina Borg and Nicole Sciberras were on the losing end in the Serie B.
Borg’s Roma Calcio Femminile lost 1-0 to Cesena with the Malta women player coming off the bench at the restart of the second half. Roma CF have slipped into third from bottom with nine points after relegation rivals Pro Sesto pipped them into the safety zone.
In fact, Pro Sesto came out on top in their clash against Tavagnacco of Sciberras with a 1-0 scoreline. Malta women’s defender Sciberras put on a full shift for her Serie B side as they slip into seventh with 20 points.
Meanwhile, youth goalkeeper Maya Cachia (picture) made her first appearance in the Serie C after starting for Crotone in their home game against Eugenio Coscarello. The former Birkirkara goalkeeper was replaced in the closing stages of the game with Crotone winning 3-0. They are fifth with 30 points after 16 games played.
