A remarkable chapter in the Maltese women’s game will be forged when young players Alexandra Gatt and Emma Ciantar Piccinino will face each other in the National Football Youth League Cup final.
While the date for the final is yet to be pencilled down, Gatt’s Barking Abbey U-21’s side and Sunderland FoL’s A team of Ciantar Piccinino will be contending the silverware.
Gatt, captain of the Malta U-19’s national team, featured for Barking Abbey as they defeated the B team of Sunderland FoL 5-0 in Wednesday’s semi-final. The former Mġarr United player contributed to her team’s cause with a good performance, hitting the crossbar in the first half before finding the net in the second 45 minutes.
On the other hand, Piccinino’s Sunderland FoL had already booked their spot in the final after beating Huddersfield PV 1-0 last month.
Piccinino is part of the Malta U-19’s selection as well and was on the scoresheet in the recent friendly which saw Malta outclass Cyprus 4-0.
