For the third year running, the Malta FA in collaboration with GMR are organising the third season of the Malta BOV ePremier League.
The Main Competition Group Stage will feature the 11 players who qualified from the Offline Qualifier alongside Luke Bartolo who replaced Christian Spiteri after deciding to retire from his career as a FIFA player.
Each of these 12 players will be officially representing a club from the Malta BOV Premier League and will follow the closure of qualifying matches earlier contested offline.
During the launch of the Main Competition Group Stage, in a newly and state of the art studio set-up at the Millennium Stand, Minister for Economy Silvio Schembri highlighted the fact that seeing local football teams represented in our national FIFA epremier league is a great initiative, and also noted how companies like GMR are developing technical skills in the set-up of such high-level competitions.
The Minister also lauded the excellent work conducted by Gaming Malta in spearheading this strategy and working with international and local stakeholders which have proved fundamental to continue nurturing our thriving esports sector.
Malta Football Association vice president Matthew Paris declared that it’s a pleasure to witness how the Malta FA is extending its services to other individuals and not just athletes.
Through this concept, Dr Paris reiterated that the Malta FA is attracting new audiences that were completely absent beforehand, also commended the idea that esports participants should be treated as other athletes and that they should benefit from the same incentives.
Dr Michele Magro from the Malta Esports Association affirmed that the ePremier League has quickly become the golden standard for esports competitions in Malta as it possesses all the best attributes to make it the most professional esports competition on the island.
He added that the association is striving to see esports in Malta further grow as an industry and in terms of competition.
As a matter of fact, the Malta Esports Association will soon be proposing a number of measures for the government’s consideration including the proposal for esports to be legally recognized with a similar status parallel to traditional sports.
This is Malta’s opportunity to become a hub for esports in the Mediterranean, if not even in Europe, Dr Magro concluded.
Kersten James Chircop representing GMR that is the entity entrusted with the running of this thrilling event outlined the fact that this main competition will once again bring the highest level of competitive FIFA to the Maltese Islands.
The event itself is yet again licensed by EA Sports as an official qualifier for the international FIFA Global Series.
He added that finally the fun of this eye-catching Main Competition Group Stage of the BOV ePremier League 2021/22 Season has landed, and barring the pride, the winner will also be eligible for a highly coveted seat to the EA Global Series Playoff Phase, giving players a greater chance to pursue international glory.
