Luxol battle to victory and preserve top position in Futsal Premier League

Luxol St Andrews strengthened their place at the top of the Enemed Futsal Premier League after a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Xbiex.

This was the champions’ 13th win of the season with Ta’ Xbiex suffering their fifth defeat. Gia Nikvashvili scored a hat-trick with Maicon adding another one for the St Andrews side. On the other hand, Stefi Cale and Jonathan Caruana kept Ta’ Xbiex in the match till the end.

University of Malta registered a comfortable 8-2 win over Mellieħa. This was an important win for the students who are vying for a top-four finish in the standings.

Guillherme Fonseca netted a hat-trick with Jean Noel Azzopardi, Essa Benatiya, Cleavin Portelli, Paul Scerri and Mohammed Elamari also on target.

Ciprian Socaciu and Armando Gjepali replied for Mellieħa.

In the Enemed Futsal Challenger League, Naxxar Lions are still topping the standings after a comfortable 3-0 win over Marsaskala. Valen Petrie McKay scored a brace while Darren Grech also put his name on the score sheet.

St George’s preserved their second placing in the standings as they saw off Qormi 6-5.

Qormi were leading 4-1 before the interval but the Cottonera side made an aggressive reaction as they turned the tables to secure a stunning victory.

Leon Camilleri and Luis Lopez scored a brace apiece while Vuk Rankovic and Karl Luke Schembri also signed off with a goal.

Qormi’s goals came from an Ayrton Duncan double, Christian George Mallia, Craig Pickard and an own goal.

Siġġiewi obtained a hard-fought 7-5 win over Żurrieq. The latter adopted a never-say-die attitude and proved a hard nut to crack for their opponents.

Siġġiewi scored their goals through a Wallace Oliveira double, Ryan Muscat, Justin Theuma, Kurt Darmanin, Darren Attard and Jean Lopez.

Żurrieq had their player-coach Boycho Marev scoring a poker of goals while Nicolas Abdilla added another for his team.
