Marsaxlokk secured promotion to the Premier League when they crushed Vittoriosa Stars 6-0 to secure the second spot in the Challenge League Section A.
The southerners were looking to join section champions Pembroke Athleta in the top-flight next season but needed to secure all three points from their match against Vittoriosa Stars and leapfrog Żejtun Corinthians in second place after the latter completed their commitments last weekend.
Marsaxlokk looked determined to settle the issue early on and raced into a four-goal lead inside the first 34 minutes of the match.
In fact, Terence Vella put Marsaxlokk ahead after four minutes of play.
Then it was Xuan Cappellino who took centre stage as the forward scored a quick-fire hat-trick with goals in the 12th, 29th, and 34th minute.
After the break, Marsaxlokk pressed on the accelerator and went on to add two more goals through Peter Paul Sammut on 68 minutes and Walter Omar Serrano on 74 minutes.
For Marsaxlokk, this will be the first time they will be playing in the Premier League after ten years.
