Zach Muscat’s Casa Pia failed to extend their unbeaten run as they were defeated by a single goal scored in the second half which handed Varzim SC a 1-0 victory.
Casa Pia remain at the top of the Portuguese second-tier with 59 points after 30 games and four games left.
The Malta international defender was deployed from the start and was subbed on minute 77, 10 minutes after being cautioned for a tactical foul.
Muscat’s side will return in action on April 23 against CF Estrela de Amadora.
